We're a pioneering partner in textile innovation and luxurious material craftsmanship, going beyond the role of a manufacturer. We invite you to explore the expertise that has made us the trusted choice for global luxury brands through our "Made by Scavi" series.
We are now exploring the material that represents ultimate comfort and refinement: Cashmere.
Cashmere is often referred to as the "diamond of fibers", and it is one of the world's most luxurious and sought-after materials, particularly during autumn and winter. Blending deep material understanding, modern technological advancements, and a dedication to skilful craftsmanship, Scavi crafts a high-end cashmere top. This is not the first time we have handled this material for a collection featuring a wide range of colors and styles.
This post will explain in detail how an end to end process of making cashmere tops, covering sourcing, design, technical development, manufacturing, and logistics, from raw materials to the final product, showcasing the critical standards that reflect Scavi's commitment to superior quality.
What Is Cashmere? Defining Premium Luxury
Cashmere is not simply a type of wool; it is a specialized fibre sourced from the soft undercoat of cashmere goats living in the coldest highlands. The unique blend of fineness and supreme warmth is what positions cashmere as one of the world's most luxurious materials.
The Scavi's Craft: From Fiber to Finished Garment
Converting raw cashmere fibre into a high-end top is a complex procedure requiring meticulous accuracy. Scavi's approach enhances this process from basic production to a finely crafted art form.
1. Fabric Relaxation & Cutting
The process begins with a 48-hour period of fabric relaxation, enabling it to breathe and reach the sense of balance. We employ automatic spreading machines, restricted to 20 layers, to prevent any pressure distortion. Subsequent cutting is performed by auto-cutting machines to guarantee millimeter precision. Each panel is subsequently inspected from top, middle, and bottom, and compared to the original paper pattern.
2. Gentle Handling & Sewing
Lightly folded panels are placed, not bundled, in nylon bags for protection. Sewing is carried out in accordance with a specific SOP. This procedure requires that machines be covered, operators wear gloves, and all jewellery be removed. The foot pressure is carefully calibrated to prevent bruising the material. Only the smallest needles (size 8 & 9) are used, and they are replaced every two hours, with a maximum stitching speed of 1500 RPM. All operations must adhere to approved mock-up designs and DDTF guidelines.
3. Quality Control
Every finished garment is subject to a 100% end-line quality check. All final garments undergo a 100% end-line inspection. At every quality control station, approved customer samples, measurement guides, and quality guidelines are posted to ensure standards are maintained. We prioritize ensuring that any twisted seam tolerance stays below 2cm.
4. Finishing & Packing
For the final stage, we use steam ironing exclusively at temperatures between 80-90°C. The iron never comes into contact with the fabric; it is the steam that does all the work. Items are carefully packed, accompanied by a final quality control check and metal detection inspection prior to shipment. Cashmere is prone to bruising when subjected to pressure. It is resistant to heat and requires a delicate touch.
